OPENING QUICKWRITE: Liar, Liar. Pants on Fire.
Based on your experience, how can you tell when someone is lying? Write a paragraph that inventories all the clues that you have that may indicate that someone is lying.

EQ: How can I use WARRANTS
to explain how my evidence supports my claim?
INSTRUCTION:
We recently learned about how to use evidence to back up our claims. Today we go one step further and discover how to use WARRANT in our arguments in order to logically connect our evidence from our texts to the claims that we are pushing forward.
You already started thinking about WARRANTS when you and your partners thought of the ways that you can tell that someone is lying. Simply put the WARRANT explains how/why the evidence support the claim.

LET'S PRACTICE USING WARRANT TO CLAIMS ABOUT LIARS
First let's learn what science says about the facial expressions and body language of a liar. Watch the video and collect clues for discovering liars. This information helps us to form our WARRANTS.
Next let's look at video of someone. You need to determine whether you believe the person is lying (CLAIM). You need to have evidence (from the person's facial expression and body language) and warrant (the scientific evidence that you gleaned from the video).
Let's do it again with another person.
- First let's watch her on mute and I want you to tell me what emotion she is feeling.
- Then we'll watch her with sound so you can hear her words.
